Rules of the Summer Show

General Rules

  1. The affairs of the show shall be managed by the Committee of the Society.
  2. Except in Section C, all vegetative exhibits must have been grown by the exhibitor for at least two months before the show.
  3. No exhibitor will be allowed to take more than one monetary prize in any class.
  4. The Judges shall be at liberty to withhold prizes for want of competition or insufficient merit. The Judges' decision shall be final.
  5. If any dispute arises, notice must be given to the Show Secretary, in writing, before 4.30pm on the first day of the show. Persons raising the objection or protests shall be required to pay a deposit of £3. The case will then be submitted to the Emergency Committee of the Society, whose decision shall be final. If the objection is sustained the money will be refunded.
  6. In the event of an objection or protest being made, the person against whom it is made shall be notified and shall permit an inspection of his land by members of the Committee of the Society.
  7. All articles must be shown at the risk of the exhibitor.
  8. No person, except an appointed Steward, is allowed in the hall during judging.
  9. Winners of Cups must return them to the Secretary 14 days before the date of the next year's show, or after holding them for one year, should no show be held. Winners of Cups shall sign a receipt before taking a cup from the hall.
  10. Judges' rules and standards are according to these of the Royal Horticultural Society, to which the Oundle Society is affiliated.
  11. Prize money should be collected at the time stated in the show schedule. If not collected, it will be returned to Society funds on the last day of August, in the year of the show.
  12. No more than two entries by a single exhibitor shall be permitted in any one class.
  13. Where cups or awards are made based on the highest number of points gained, and there is a tie, the exhibitor with the most first places shall be declared the winner. Similarly, for equal first places, second places shall then be considered.

Closing Date for Entries

Completed entry forms must be received NOT LATER than 8.00pm on the WEDNESDAY, immediately preceding the show.

Staging of Exhibits

  1. Exhibits (except exhibits in the Art classes, section 'J', and Children's Art Classes, section 'M') may be staged by exhibitors, in the hall, strictly at the following times:
    • between 6:30pm and 9:00pm Evening of the FRIDAY immediately prior to the Show
    • between 7:30am and 10:15am on the morning of the Show
  2. Exhibits in the Art classes must be presented between 6,30pm to 9,00pm on the evening of the FRIDAY immediately prior to the Show. Staging of these entries will be done by the Society.
  3. The hall must be vacated by 10.15am on the SATURDAY of the Show, in readiness for the judging.
  4. No exhibits are to be removed before 5pm on the SUNDAY of the Show.
  5. Exhibits should be collected between the hours of 5-6pm on the SUNDAY of the Show.

Guidelines for Decorative Classes

  1. Height is unlimited, unless otherwise stated.
  2. Exhibits shall not exceed the stated dimensions and should comply with any stated requirements of the class.
  3. Fresh plant material must have its roots or the cut ends of its stems in water or water retaining material. This does not apply to air plants, cacti, fruits, grass turf, moss, succulents and vegetables.
  4. Artificial plant material may not be used unless specifically stated otherwise.
  5. The competitions are judged in accordance with NAFAS Competition Manual 1st Edition 2001.
